Please direct all non-emergency animal calls to the Lunenburg County Dispatch at (434) 696-4452 . If it is a true emergency, please call 9-1-1.
- Dogs may be brought to the Pound during posted hours, only after scheduling a meeting with the Animal Control Officer.
- Leaving dogs outside of the pound when unattended is considered abandonment and is subject to prosecution.
- Owners must sign a release form when surrendering their dogs.
Adoption – Adoption fee is $25.00. You must sign an Adoption Agreement and a Spay / Neuter Agreement stating that you will have the animal spayed or neutered within a certain period of time.
In the case of a dog bite, please call 9-1-1, they will page the Officer to respond to this matter.
Location – From the Lunenburg County Courthouse on Route 40, turn onto State Route 675 (Hardy Road), in less than one mile, turn onto Route 659 (Old Mansion Road) and travel approximately 4.5 miles, Animal Shelter is on the left across from the County Landfill.

*Impoundment and surrender fees are per animal except in the case of nursing litters. The impoundment/surrender fee will be enforced for the mother, plus there will be an additional $20.00 charge for impoundment/surrender of the nursing litter.
